The Team Cobras and the CCTTS take your safety, the safety of the racers, and all other park users very seriously. The following quiz will help you to review some of the most important volunteer duties and information you need to know regardless of what position you are assigned to. A passing score is 100%.

Each position has its idiosyncrasies, can I call the Volunteer Coordinator on the radio or cell phone for help?

No, each marshal should know how to handle each position in advance. Using my phone, I should go to the website and look up my responsibilities and what I should be doing. Yes, always call if you are unsure of how to handle your position or if you are in the correct place.

I will have the same shift and position each week, no changes.

Of course. My shift/position is going to always be the same every week. No, we rotate you to keep it interesting. Maybe, sometimes the Volunteer Coordinator may need to reassign volunteers to other positions to be sure all the critical positions are covered.

What if I can’t reach the Volunteer Coordinator by radio?

Use your phone and call the designated phone number or text them. Ask the motor official to contact them. Try a different channel on the radio.

What do I do with my radio?

When I get to my position: Set the volume all the way up Call the Volunteer Coordinator and perform a radio check Keep my radio on me so I can hear any reports or grab it quickly if I see an issue or accident Hang it around my neck and look important. Just assume it is set up correctly and the volume is high enough for me to hear.

If I have to miss a week because of work, travel or other situation letting the Volunteer Coordinator know the day of a race is OK, right?

No, I need to let the Volunteer Coordinator know as soon as possible.. If I know when I register I should indicate which weeks I will not be available. If something changes, I can go to the website and under Volunteers, and choose Update My Schedule. I should not worry about it, the Volunteer Coordinator will figure it out when I don\'t show up. Yes, there are lots of marshals who will fill my position.

I can leave my assigned position when:

First Shift: when my shift is over at 5:40. Second Shift: when my shift is over at 7:00. First Shift: when I am relieved. Second Shift: when the USAC motor comes by telling me the last rider has passed. When I need to leave in time warm up and race

When I arrive at the park for my shift:

I go right to my assigned position I check in at the Volunteer table and pick up my vest and radio I wander around in the parking lot taking to the riders

If I see an crash involving a car, racer or pedestrian should I call 911?

No, radio or phone the Volunteer Coordinator and they will contact the EMS to respond. Call 911 first, then radio or phone the Volunteer Coordinator. Yes, immediately take charge of the situation, time is of the essence.

In the event of a weather or other emergency, what do I tell the riders?

If I think the race has been suspended or canceled, let riders know right away. Flag them off the course. I will not assume anything and will not give the riders any information that may not be correct. I will wait for an official announcement on the radio, then only then provide any information to riders. I will tell the riders what I think should or may happen as for a race cancelation or suspension.

Do I need to point in the direction of the race for the racers?

Can I pull my car off the road and park anywhere near my position?

Do I have any control over vehicle traffic?

No, only licensed flaggers or police officers have the authority to direct traffic. Absolutely! All vehicles must obey your directions. Yes, I can step into traffic and take charge…after all I have a yellow vest on.

The shift and position I just selected will be assigned me, right?

Perhaps, if the shift position is available and the Volunteer Coordinator feels you are a good fit for the position I will be assigned to the shift position I request. No, the Volunteer Coordinator randomly assigns shift and positions. Absolutely!
