What You Need to Know

This page constitutes the race flyer

Please note that we do our best to be sure all information on this website is correct. We do reserve the right to add, modify, and correct any information on this website as needed.

RIDER RESPONSIBILITIES
  • You must obey all USAC rules and Colorado State Laws. That includes riding to the right of the road and never crossing the centerline. Cherry Creek State Park requires that all riders stay to the right of the road unless passing another rider or to avoid a vehicle or object in the road,
  • You must know the course. On our website you will find a course map and GPS files that you can use to navigate the course.
  • You must not warm up on the course once the race has started. If a marshal or official sees you, you will be disqualified.
  • You must be aware of other park users, this is an open course (roads are open to all vehicles). Be courteous, we are guests of CCSP and must respect all other park users.
  • You are responsible for your own safety. Our marshals and traffic control personnel will do their best to warn you of any vehicle, pedestrian, or bicycle traffic but you are responsible to look both ways when crossing an intersection or coming up to a crosswalk.
  • You must read and understand the CCTTS flyer.  This website contains all the details about the series. Most questions we receive are covered on this page, read it and know it before you register.
  • You must arrive at the park on time and be at the start line on time. If you arrive at the park late due to circumstances not under your control, see us at the table behind the Smoky Hill parking lot and we will do our best to reschedule your start time, but there are no guarantees.
  • You must pin your bib correctly. Our spotter and timing crew do not have x-ray vision. If they cannot easily see your bib number, they may not be able to give you your time. You may want to consider yelling out your bib number as you go by the spotter, located just before the finish. We have detailed instructions on how and where to pin your bib here.
  • You must verify your own results.  If you believe your results are incorrect or they are not posted, you may contact us and request a review. Click here and scroll down to Other, and My time for my last race is incorrect or missing and there you may fill out a form requesting the review.

JUNIORS

Who Qualifies

  • Juniors receive a highly discounted rate for the series and individual races.
  • A junior is any rider who is at least 9 years old and has not yet turned 19 years old.

Required Waiver

  • A Junior waiver is required.
  • The waiver must be signed by both the rider and a parent or guardian.
  • No exceptions can be made.

    Escorts for Juniors

    When Escorts Are Allowed

    • Very young juniors or riders with special needs may be escorted.
    • Escorts may also be helpful for new juniors or adults with limited bike-handling skills.
    • Escorts are allowed for safety, but must follow USAC rules.

    Escort Rules (Must Be Followed)

    • Position: Escort must ride directly behind the rider, staying 3–4 bike lengths back.
    • Helmet: Escort must wear a helmet at all times.
    • Visibility: Escort must wear an orange vest (available at the Team Cobras race headquarters).

    Important:
Failure to follow these rules will result in disqualification. The USAC motor referee will stop both the rider and escort and issue a DQ.

    RACING TWICE EACH NIGHT

The CCTTS allows you to race twice each night for a very low additional cost.

When registering to race twice, you need to consider the time you believe you will be able to complete the course during your first race of the night, time to recover, and time to make your way to the start line before you select your second race start time. The normal time is about an hour.

    REGISTRATION

Full series registration will be available about 45 days before the start of the series.

Registration for fewer than the full series and single-race registration will be available about 10 days before the start of the series.

The registration process will allow you to select your start time.

Once your registration is complete, you will receive an email confirmation, usually within 15 minutes. If you do not see it, please check your spam folder.

Please make sure your email and mailing addresses are correct on the registration form.

If you register at least 10 days before the start of the series, your bib will be mailed to you.

If your bib is not mailed to you, it may be picked up on race day after 4:00 PM at the Smoky Hill Parking Lot Pavilion.

Online registration is available until 1:30 PM on race day and is smartphone friendly.

Registration is not available at the park due to park regulations.

A small fee is added to your registration cost to cover credit card processing. We charge only the amount charged by the credit card company.

BE A VOLUNTEER Race For Free!

The CCTTS has an exceptional safety record, thanks to our dedicated volunteers and supporters who assist racers, monitor motor vehicles, and direct traffic. We offer a variety of positions, and Team Cobras will provide training and equipment for your success. (Race marshals must be at least 16 years old.)

There are three ways to participate:

    • Race free of charge in exchange for volunteer hours (“Race for Free”).
    • Work for a monetary stipend (“Paid”).
    • Volunteer without compensation.

If you choose Race for Free, volunteers are given either early race start times or late race start times depending on the shift you are assigned to.

We do our best to be sure you have plenty of time to marshal, warm up, and race.

    here.

    RACE BIBS (NUMBERS)

You will be issued a bib number for the entire series for each category in which you are racing. Do not discard your bib after the first week – you will need it for all the races!

Your bib number corresponds to your start time. If later you decide to change your start time, you must come to the bib pickup table behind the Riverside Group Area parking lot and exchange your bib for a new one that corresponds to your new start time. This is required if you only change your start time for a single week or the remaining races of the series.

Bibs are not transferable to another racer.

The race bib must be pinned correctly on the left side. If the bib number is obstructed by hair or otherwise hidden from the view of the spotter or timers, then you may not receive a time.

For correct placement and pinning information, click here.

    RETRO CATEGORY

No time trial equipment is allowed.

    Time trial equipment includes:

    • Aero bars
    • Wheel rims deeper than 50mm
    • Disk wheels
    • Aero helmets

Bicycle: The seat tube and down tube must be straight and the height to width of the tubes may not exceed a ratio of 1 to 2 compared to the top tube.

Skin suits and shoe covers are permitted.

The Chief Referee will make the final decision on all retro equipment and accessories.

Please be aware that the Retro categories are our most popular categories.  You are not required to race in a Retro category if you do not have a TT bike but can race in any category your age and gender qualifies for.

    RESULTS

The results for each week and consolidated results showing your results for each week you raced are posted to this website. We do not post results to the USA Cycling website.

For all race results click here.

    ESCORT POLICY

For newer juniors or adults with limited bicycle handling skills, having an escort can provide confidence and enhance safety during the ride. While the CCTTS acknowledges the occasional need for escorts, our primary focus remains on ensuring the safety of all participants and maintaining compliance with USAC regulations.

To support this, the CCTTS has established the following rules for escorts, which must be strictly observed:

    1. Positioning: The escort must ride directly behind the rider, maintaining a distance of at least 3-4 bike lengths.
    2. Safety Gear: The escort is required to wear a helmet at all times.
    3. Visibility: The escort must wear an orange vest, which can be obtained from the Team Cobras table in the pavilion behind the Smoky Hill parking lot.

Failure to comply with these requirements will result in the rider being disqualified. The USAC motor referee will stop both the rider and the escort, and a DQ will be issued.

Escorts do not need to be registered to race. However, they should be familiar with time trial racing and USAC rules.

    TANDEMS

Both tandem riders must register separately. Each rider will be charged half (85.00) of the total entry fee.

    REFUND POLICY

    • No refunds are available for multi‑race purchases.
Exceptions may be considered if a rider is unable to participate due to injury. Please contact
[email protected] with supporting documentation and we will review your request.
    • Single‑race cancellations: If a single race is cancelled because of weather or other unforeseen circumstances, riders who purchased that single race will receive an automatic refund to their original payment method. Refunds are issued automatically and entries will not be carried over to a future race.
    WEATHER

Weather in Colorado can be windy, raining, sleeting, or snowing. Be prepared to ride in all conditions!

If the Chief Referee deems conditions to be unsafe on the day of the race, that day’s racing may be canceled or if conditions become unsafe during the race, the race may be suspended or canceled.

    If a cancelation occurs:

    • No refunds will be made for canceled races except for single race purchases.
    • Race cancellation may not be determined until 3:00 PM or later on race day. We try to make a determination as early as possible, however weather conditions can change rapidly.
    • The CCTTS will attempt to notify all registered racers via email and will be posted on the CCTTS.com website.
    WEATHER EMERGENCY POLICY

    What Is a Weather Emergency?

A weather emergency is any condition that makes racing unsafe,
    including:

    • Heavy rain
    • Lightning
    • High winds
    • Snow or hail

    Who Decides?

The Chief Referee and the Race Director jointly determine
whether conditions are safe for racing. They have full authority to
suspend or cancel the race at any time.

    What Actions Can Be Taken?

When unsafe conditions arise, the Chief Referee and Race Director
will choose one of two courses of action:

    Action When used
Suspend new starts — riders already on the course may finish Moderate or developing weather concern
Stop all activity — all riders and volunteers on course must seek
    shelter immediately
    Sudden or severe weather event

    How Will I Be Notified?

    At the start line:

The Chief Referee will announce directly to those at the start line
that all starts have been suspended. A CCTTS leader will circulate the
parking area to inform all riders in that area.

    On the course:

The Motor Official and a CCTTS leader in a vehicle will drive
the course and notify all riders to seek shelter immediately. Volunteers
will also be notified by radio.

If the Race Is Suspended — What Happens Next?

If the Chief Referee and Race Director determine it is safe to resume
    racing:

    • Riders with start times at or after the race resume time will be
started as scheduled. A CCTTS leader will circulate the parking area to
      notify riders.
    • Riders who missed their start time due to the suspension should
report to the start line. The Chief Referee will start those riders as
gaps in the schedule become available.

I am a volunteer, what are my responsibilities?

    Your Most Important Rule:

    • Do not inform riders that the race has been suspended or
      cancelled.
    • This responsibility belongs exclusively to the:
      • Chief Referee
      • Race Director
      • A volunteer specifically designated by the above

Misinformation during a race event can cause confusion and safety
issues. When in doubt, say nothing and wait for official
    communication.

    If the Race Is Suspended:

    • Stay at your post. Do not leave under any circumstances until you
      are officially released.
    • The Motor Official will follow the last rider on the course
and will inform you that you are clear to leave your post.
    • You may only leave your post once the Motor Official has
      told you to do so.

If the Race Is Cancelled Due to a Severe Weather Emergency

You will be notified to seek shelter immediately through both of the
    following:

    • Radio - Race officials via volunteer radio
    • In person - Motor Official or a CCTTS leader in a
      vehicle

Once you receive this notification, seek shelter immediately.

    Summary

    Situation Your Action
Riders ask about race status Politely direct them to the start line or a race official —
    do not speculate
Race suspended Stay at your post until released by the Motor Official
Severe weather cancellation Seek shelter immediately upon notification by radio or in
    person

    Refund Policy

    Situation Refund?
Race cancelled — you purchased a multi-race entry No refund
Race cancelled — you purchased a one-day entry and your start time
had not yet occurred at the time of cancellation
    Yes, full refund
Race suspended and resumed — you do not proceed to the start line
    for a new start
    No refund

Important: Riders are expected to remain at the park until an
official suspension or cancellation decision is announced. No refunds
will be issued if you leave the park during a suspension.

Refunds for one day entries will be calculated based on the official
cancellation time. Only riders whose scheduled start time fell after
    that time are eligible.
